Natural Forces
Today we talked about the forces that affect the environment. Today we specifically looked at thunderstorms and how those storms involve lots of natural forces.

Wonderopolis
Today we answered three main questions that combined our work on fire safety as well as the forces we have been learning. We looked at how and why hot air rises. We also looked at how this idea helps hot air balloons fly. These are our three main questions;

-
Does hot air always rise?
-
How does a hot air balloon fly?
-
Why is the air colder at higher altitudes?

Natural Forces
Through our study of forces we have learned that a force is a push or pull that can cause movement. We have also discovered that there are many different types of forces, and many things that can cause forces. Today we discussed erosion, landslides, lightning, and tidal waves as natural forces.

Epic Books
Today we read this book on thunderstorms. We learned some very interesting facts such as;

-about 100 lightning bolts hit the earth each second
-lightning is five times hotter than the surface of the sun
-There are about 16 million thunderstorms in the world per year

Students have this book in their assignment folder and can reread at any point.

Thunderstorm Live
To end class we watched a meteorologist in the field explaining the weather and how to stay safe in a storm. Students were then asked to ask questions they may want the meteorologist to answer.

I hope you enjoy these activities and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
