Forces
Today we continued our discussion on forces. We looked at forces on the playground and started looking at some other ways forces are used in things we enjoy.

Forces Review
Today we started by reviewing what a force is: A force is a push or a pull. When the wind pushes a sailboat through the water, it is exerting a force. When gravity pulls an apple toward the ground , that is a force as well. Forces can make things move, change their speed, or change their shape.

We also reviewed the four forces we covered yesterday which were; Gravity, Muscular, Buoyancy, and friction.
Epic Books
Today we read a book on the forces we can find on the playground. Please log in to Epic books by clicking on this link: www.getepic.com/students
and typing in our class code. The code can be found on teams and EDSBY.

Roller Coaster
We learned about the forces that make a roller coaster go and stop through a wonderopolis reading. We learned that roller coaster rides have a motorized chain that pull them up to the crest of a big hill, but other than that forces help the roller coaster along. There are also boosters on longer roller coasters that may require extra power to keep moving. Most of the time roller coasters are only using forces though.

We also watched the videos that went along with the wonderopolis reading.

Roller Coaster POV
Want to explore the way forces work on a roller coaster. Watch one or all of these videos from the front seat of a roller coaster, and see what you notice.
When does the roller coaster need some help? Are there moments of push or pull? What force acts on the roller coaster to make it go so fast?

I hope you enjoy these activities and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
